THE MIND – APPRECIATION FOR THE CLOSEST ALLY

Wanting More…

After listening to a dhamma talk on a podcast from Ajahn Brahm the next podcast that played was “Anything Goes with James English” and he was interviewing David Fishwick. David Fishwick is well off, an author, netflix Bafta winner, entrepreneur and rich person. Listen to the podcast for more info.

In the podcast a lot of time was spent talking about David, who he is, the work ethic, the constantly ambitious ways that made him successful.

The questions that arose were:

  • Is he free from wanting?
  • Is he calm, still and mindful?
  • Is he free from suffering and discontentment?

The answer – seems to be No. He has done so many things, but there are still things he is striving to do. Wanting. Wanting more.

Wanting more:

  • money
  • fame
  • family
  • friends
  • moments
  • joy
  • excitement
  • justice

Does not lead to an end. Once you get one thing, another thing arises that one can use as a goal. Or if you miss out on acquiring this one thing, discontentment arises.

If that path, those decisions lead to more discontentment. Will letting go of the wanting, goals, ambitions, desire and craving help?
